A: Bikeflights ships everything from road, mountain, triathlon, touring, tandem, track, cyclocross, freeride, downhill, BMX, cruiser, commuter, single speed, 29er, 26er, 69er, 650B, recumbent, and electric assist bikes. We also ship handcycles and unicycles.
A: Yes, in fact, our free online bicycle shipping rate tool features a large list of the most popular travel cases and their shipping dimensions so you can quickly get an idea of how much it will cost to ship that case.
A: Yes, we ship both bicycle bags and soft cases. As bags and cases are not as impact resistant as a hard case, we suggest extra padding. It is often difficult for a label to stick on such a package, we suggest affixing a luggage tag to the bag or case with a zip tie.
A: The actual weight of a modern bicycle packed in a box is typically far less than it's dimensional weight. So, package size plays a big role in determining available services and rates.
130in (330cm) is the size you want to stay under if you want the lowest shipping rates domestically. It is also the international size restriction before your bike has to ship Freight.
165in (419cm) is the domestic size before your bike has to ship Freight which will generally increase costs for your bike would be billed at the Freight minimal of 151 lbs, even though it weighs much less.
108in (274cm) is the size you want to stay under if you want to ship your bike to an island for vacation. This can be a challenge even when using 2 boxes.
Please note that Cannondale and other manufactures clearly label their boxes that meet the 130 size weight restriction as such.
A: Yes, it’s how major manufacturers send their bikes to shops around the world. As long as you’re mindful of sufficient packing methods, your bicycle will be safe. Keep in mind that a cardboard box does not stand up well to repeat use and moisture. And depending on your bicycle type, finding a proper cardboard box at your local bike shop can be a challenge.
A. No. Your bike has to be packed and ready to ship when the driver comes. You can hire a local bike shop to pack it or you can pack it yourself following our instructions. We do sell cases and tools in our store to help you pack that we can ship to you ahead of time.
A: Ship Date is the day your package is either picked up or dropped off at a carrier location prior to the last pickup for that service.
The Delivery Date is the date your package will be delivered at the destination location.
Based on the Delivery Date selected, BikeFlights will return the available shipping speeds to your destination along with the days in transit and rates for each available service. As needed, you can adjust the your Delivery Date using the Transit Days provided to receive the desired Ship Date in the quote. We strongly suggest that you set your Delivery Date one day prior to your arrival.
Take note: Pickups cannot be scheduled on the same day of booking your shipment, move the Delivery Date out one day to Pickup up as early as the following business day.
A: Bicycle shipping rates vary. The two biggest factors are the size of your box and distance it is being shipped. You can to get rates 24 hours a day using the Bikeflights
bike shipping rate tool by just by plugging in postal codes, dimensions and weight. We will return live rates of available services in just seconds. It's fast and free.
A: Measure the exterior dimensions of your bike box for shipping with a tape measure. For a rectangular box or case simply measure the longest distance of three sides of your bike box or case. For a non-rectangular box or case you have to measure all sides in the same direction and use the longest measurement for each dimension, this drawing an imaginary box into which your case would just fit. Currently our system is set to work in inches. If measuring in centimeters, remember to convert to inches using the conversion: 1 inch = 2.54 cm. Round half inches up to the next whole inch.
Dimensions needed to find rates
LENGTH - the longest side
WIDTH - the shortest side
HEIGHT - the second longest side
A helpful hint for those without a tape measure. Many bike box manufactures list the external dimensions on the outside of the box. For example the following box is listed as 1430x220x770. Converting that to inches would be.
143 / 2.54 = 56.30 inches
22 / 2.54 = 8.66 inches
77 / 2.54 = 30.31 inches
So the dimensions to use to find shipping rates would be Length 56, Width 9, Height 30.

A: While Bikeflights allows you to book shipments as far in advance as you would like, labels are only generated 10 days prior to the ship date. Orders placed within the 10 day window will immediately receive labels after purchase.
If you are still waiting on a label within the 10 day period, verify your email address, make sure you have not exceeded your email storage limit, and check your spam folders. Contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org or at 541-705-2453 if the labels have yet to appear.

A: If you are comfortable leaving your bike unattended outside, you do not need to be present for the pickup. The package must be accessible from outside your home.
A: Yes. You can drop off before your ship date on your label. Doing so, will push your delivery date forward and give you added piece of mind against a weather delay. Please note, if you drop off after the ship date your ship date, you will reset your delivery date and delivery guarantee.
For your protection, when the Declared Value of a shipment is over 500 usd or more, then a Direct Signature is required for delivery.
BikeFlights uses the Direct Signature option, meaning a person at the delivery address (not the person) must sign for the shipment, the driver may not obtain a signature nor deliver the shipment to a neighboring residence or business.
If a delivery attempt has been made, a door hanger will be left to document such attempt, but the door hanger CANNOT be signed, a physical person at the address must sign to deliver.
If you wish to require a signature at delivery, select the Declared Value of the shipment as 500 usd in the drop-down menu. Since a Direct Signature is a surcharge item, this is the cheapest and easiest way to require one.
A: Enter the phone numbers associated with the “ship from” and “ship to” addresses in case the courier needs to call someone at either of those locations. If you are shipping from a carrier location, enter the phone number of the person whose name is printed on the label and will be handling the drop-off and pickup.
A: Use tie-on luggage tags which are free and available at FedEx Office Print & Ship Centers.
Shipping bike cases are great protection for your bike, however, there is no adequate way to adhere a label to the shell or fabric, and we do not want the label pulling off during transit thus delaying your shipment.
Use two tie-on luggage tags and three clear mailing pouches for each case and each stage of your shipment. Print three copies of the same label, slide label into mailing pouch, then stick the mailing pouch onto tie-on luggage tag.
Zip-tie on two luggage tags to the outside of the case and place one inside the case as a backup. Packages are allowed to have multiple copies of the SAME label, please remove all other labels to not conflict.
A: Packages with a Declared Value under $499 USD do not require a Direct Signature for delivery. The driver will leave the package at the doorstep.
Packages with a Declared Value of $500 or more will require a signature to that address.
If you wish to have a Direct Signature for delivery, see "How do I add a signature for proof of delivery?"
A: First, adjust your Delivery Date using the number of Transit Days in the quote to nail the desired Ship/Pickup Date. Then continue on to create your shipment and on the detailed address page, select "Yes, please pickup" below the Stage 1 Ship From address.
If booking a Round-Trip, you can also check the Pickup box for Stage 2 for your return.
Take note: please verify the information keyed in before purchasing your label. If already purchased and need to make a change, DO NOT go back and attempt to change on the website, you will be billed again. Simply send us an email at email@example.com and we will change or adjust for free.
A: We know that bike trips get canceled or sales fall through, so we offer full refunds on all shipments up to 60 days after the purchase date. Refunds may to up to 7-10 days to post to your account after your request date.
Note: Please do not file a chargeback with your credit card company as that will slow your refund. Please email or call us first so we can quickly process your refund.
A: To begin the claims process with Bikeflights, please email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 541-705-2453 immediately. Have your order number and tracking number handy. For damaged bicycles, please send photos of the damage along with a description and repair estimate within 72 hours of delivery.
Bikeflights reviews claims with bicycle industry experts and carriers typically within 7-10 days. If your claim is approved, Bikeflights will decide to repair or replace the damaged item. Claims may be denied for a number of reasons, most commonly related to insufficient bicycle packaging. Please consult our packing guide to ensure that your bicycle is adequately prepared to ship.
A: Declared value is not insurance coverage. The declared value of a package represents Bikeflight's maximum liability for the package in the case of loss or damage by a carrier. If no value is declared, Bikeflight's maximum liability for loss or damage to the package is $100. Bikeflights uses a third-party vendor to protect packages with values declared in excess of $100.
Bikeflights is not liable for loss or damage to a package that is not properly packed to withstand the series of movements through the package shipping environment. If you declared a value for the package in excess of $100, Bikeflights will not reimburse the sender for the damage.
A proof of value must be provided on all claims. This proof may come in the form of an invoice, sales receipt, appraisal, or value of a “like” item that can be verified. Bikeflights cannot reimburse for “sentimental value,” whose value cannot be determined.
In the event of damage or loss, you must prove the value of the merchandise, regardless of the value declared. The declared value is the maximum amount that Bikeflights will pay on a claim, subject to proof of the declared value.
Bikeflights will determine on a case-by-case basis whether the damage is repairable or requires replacement, and facilitates the process of restoration between the customer and carrier.
A: No. Containers are intended to protect their contents and are therefore not covered by declared value. Coverage extends solely to contents. However, Bikeflights can still help you with repair and replacement from the case manufacturer. Please send case information, tracking numbers, and photos of damage to email@example.com.
A: Declared value protects the contents of your bicycle box or case against loss or damage as a result of accidental mishandling by a carrier. You can specify the value of your shipping contents when creating an order online. That value amount serves as the maximum cost amount for either repair or replacement to your shipping contents. Bikeflights will determine on a case-by-case basis whether the damage is repairable or requires replacement and facilitates the process of restoration between the customer and carrier.
Conditions apply: customer responsible for sufficiently packing bicycle for transport. Please consult our packing guidelines, support, or a local bike shop to ensure sufficient packing. Declaring a value does not relieve customer responsibility for packing. Coverage does not include protection of bicycle box or case, improperly secured parts, or pieces inadequately encased in shipping container that become lost during transit. Shipping costs are not refundable if package delivered on time.
