Professional cyclist Tim Johnson founded this ride in 2011 to raise funds and awareness for PeopleForBikes. Originally known as the Ride on Washington, the five-day ride traversed the eastern seaboard from Boston to Washington, D.C. In 2014, the event moved to a new location: the Midwest. Riders started in Kansas City, MO and finished in downtown Chicago, pedaling more than 500 miles in just five days. In 2015, the Ride on Chicago departed from Minneapolis, MN, traveled through Madison, WI and Milwaukee, WI, and ended in Chicago. The 525-mile route consisted of riders pedaling an impressive 85-120 miles per day.
The ride has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for PeopleForBikes, supporting the organization's work to make bicycling safer in all communities. The event has also increased awareness for bike advocacy throughout the bike racing and enthusiast communities.
This year, the ride heads back to the east coast and kicks off in Asheville, NC on March 30th. The four-day ride will wrap in Atlanta, GA on April 2nd.
